Scaled Agile, most often the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), is a set of organizational and workflow patterns for applying agile and lean practices across many teams at once—coordinating dozens or hundreds of developers around shared cadence, planning, and delivery.

Scaled Agile, most commonly delivered as the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), is a body of practice for taking agile from a single team to an entire organization. Where plain agile assumes one small team can self-organize, scaled agile adds the structure—shared cadence, aligned planning, and coordinating roles—needed to keep many teams pointed at the same outcomes. It is as much an operating model for the business around software as it is a software methodology.
- Multi-team coordination - Synchronizes many teams that would otherwise plan and ship independently and drift apart.
- Cadence and planning - Introduces program increments and big-room planning so delivery lines up across the organization.
- Lean-agile roles - Defines roles and ceremonies that connect team-level work to portfolio and strategy.
- Value-stream orientation - Organizes work around the flow of value to the customer rather than around org-chart silos.
In API terms, scaled agile is the delivery culture behind the platforms I study: the more teams a company runs, the more it needs a shared cadence to ship APIs that hang together instead of fragmenting into inconsistent, one-off services. The same coordination problem that scaled agile addresses is the one API governance addresses on the technical side—alignment across many teams. Where the two connect well, an organization can move fast without every team reinventing its own contract, security, and versioning conventions.
