The Open Agentic Schema Framework (OASF) is a standardized schema system for defining and managing AI agent capabilities, interactions and metadata, using attribute-based taxonomies. Its core is the record object, annotated with skills and domains for announcement and discovery and extended through composable modules. It is part of AGNTCY, a project the Linux Foundation announced it would host, and is modeled on the Open Cybersecurity Schema Framework (OCSF). Latest release v1.1.0 (10 July 2026), Apache 2.0.
Open Agentic Schema Framework
OASF is a shared vocabulary for describing agents. A record says what an agent is and can do, tagged with skills and domains from a common taxonomy, so a directory or another agent can find it by capability rather than by name.
- Record object - The record is the primary structure for metadata about an agentic application.
- Skills and domains - Records are annotated with skills and domains for announcement and discovery; a discovery extension lets other formats, including A2A Agent Cards and AI Catalog entries, carry the same annotations.
- Modules - Composable modules extend a record with additional information for specific use cases.
- OCSF lineage - Modeled on the Open Cybersecurity Schema Framework; the schema server is a derivative of the OCSF schema server and reuses its schema update workflows.
- Releases - Parallel 0.7.x, 0.8.x and 1.0.x lines were maintained into March 2026; v1.1.0 shipped on 10 July 2026. Apache 2.0.
Where it sits. OASF describes agents for discovery, complementing the Agent2Agent Agent Card and the AI Catalog, both of which its discovery extension can annotate. It plays a role for agents similar to the MCP Registry’s server.json for MCP servers, and its records are defined as JSON schema objects served from a schema server.
