MDS is the data standard cities use to regulate shared micromobility, developed by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation and now governed by the Open Mobility Foundation. Unlike GBFS, which publishes availability to riders, MDS is a regulator-facing interface: a provider endpoint reporting trips and vehicle status, and an agency endpoint issuing policy such as geofenced no-ride areas and fleet caps.
