Lean Six Sigma

A methodology that combines Lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma quality management techniques to improve business processes by eliminating waste and reducing variation, focusing on data-driven decision making and continuous improvement. Organizations adopt it to address specific technical or business challenges in their environments.

Lean Six Sigma is a process-improvement methodology that fuses two disciplines: Lean, which strips waste out of a process, and Six Sigma, which reduces variation and defects through statistical control. The combination gives teams a shared, data-driven playbook for making work faster and more reliable at the same time. It is typically practiced through the DMAIC cycle — Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control — and a belt-based ladder of practitioner skill.

  • Waste elimination (Lean) - Removes steps, waits, and rework that add cost but no value.
  • Variation reduction (Six Sigma) - Uses statistics to shrink defects and make outcomes predictable.
