CobaltCore is an opinionated OpenStack distribution built on IronCore’s foundation to run non-cloud-native workloads, with KVM hypervisor operators, workload placement and scheduling (cortex), a self-service portal and Ceph storage, managed through Kubernetes. It is software; its contracts are the Kubernetes resources its operators define. Apache 2.0.
CobaltCore
CobaltCore carries OpenStack — and the virtual machines that still run most enterprise workloads — into a Kubernetes-operated stack. It is part of NeoNephos, a Linux Foundation Europe project.
- Built on OpenStack and KVM - Nix packages and modules for OpenStack, a hypervisor operator and a KVM node agent.
- Scheduling as resources - cortex defines
cortex.cloudresources — decisions, pipelines, knowledges, KPIs — for placement and scheduling. - No single repository - The project spans several repositories under
cobaltcore-dev.
