CIECA is the standards body for the collision and auto physical damage side of insurance — the data standards moving estimates, assignments, images and repair information between insurers, body shops, estimating systems and parts suppliers. Its Business Message Suite (BMS) is the XML standard that replaced the older EMS data-pump model.

The finding worth carrying from The State of US Insurance APIs: in the auto physical damage half of American insurance, ACORD has been displaced outright. One vendor shows zero occurrences of ACORD, AL3, NGDS or IVANS across its entire site, portal, harvested specifications and integration guides — and is a CIECA corporate technology member. When a sector standard loses a whole line of business to a rival, that is a fact about the standard, not about the line of business.
